Hugo reading: Novel short takes

A hair over a month to go and I’ve only finished the novel category! But at least it’s a strong one this year, though my favourite by far is Some Desperate Glory.

The novel is just a classic, technically accomplished, incredibly readable adventure novel built on absolutely fascinating philosophical armature, it has a fresh take on some old-school concepts and has characters that feel real, and Tesh manages to make it all look effortless. Definitely top of my ballot, and I’m excited to see what she does with fantasy in her Greenhollow duology, though that will have to wait till I get through the rest of the Hugo reading.
