Solstice

We are in the runup to the end of the year, marked mainly by top ten of the year articles, app year-in-review marketing campaigns, and roundup blog posts. So here I am doing my bit.

Most of the excursions and adventures I’ve blogged about already. I tend not to review things much anymore, but ’tis the Season of Lists so some favourites in no particular order.

Books: Private Rites by Julia Armfield, which I was rooting for to win the Clarke. A Letter to the Luminous Deep by Sylvie Cathrall, which was the coziest without being slight. When There Are Wolves Again by E. J. Swift, which was a slow burn but stuck with me. The Book Lovers by Steve Aylett, which was imperfect but I do love his dense, curlicued writing and wish he was better known.

Movies: Superman, it was so good y’all! The People’s Joker, which his twinned in my mind with Hundreds of Beavers, two anarchic diy flicks that I watcheda couple of days apart, that was a good week. Joy Ride, I love a raunchy girl comedy and this one is lots of fun. What can I say, I am a sophisticate.

Television: This is a bit harder since I don’t track it properly, but Severance is still definitely tops, no question there. Palm Springs is a hoot, Kristen Wiig with and amazing supporting cast (Allison Janney! Carol Burnett!) and an apparently unlimited costume budget. KAOS, which I was late to and is cancelled anyway alas.
