Well, this should have been a con report, or more Hugo reading posts, but instead I caught a cold and then maybe another cold, or a sinus infection, or some damned thing and missed out on the convention and a few other things as well.
Satellite 9 was over the Spring Bank Holiday/Memorial Day weekend, but I was in no shape for it. I sent John off on his own, train tickets and hotel non-refundable after all, and to be honest the weekend was not too bad – it was sunny and I spent a little time in the garden, since being upright and walking around made the congestion better. I did some reading, watched a few movies, a whole lot of teevee, and tried not to feel too sorry for myself for missing both a convention and a really gorgeous three-day weekend. The rest of the week I was still congested and meh, but by the time the time the weekend rolled around and John headed off to the UK Games Expo I felt like I’d gotten through it. And just in time, as I had prep for Monday nights Unpopular Film Club screening.
Unpopular Film Club is more or less what it sounds like, a group of people who watch slightly more obscure or unloved movies, not necessarily bad ones, but out of the mainstream. It started as a Discord, but has live screenings at a local space now and this month’s film is a great favourite of mine; Zardoz! I’d been excited about it for a month, spent the weekend painting a huge floating head banner, and had put together a costume. I was very relieved not to miss it, but it’s also possible I overestimated how much better I was feeling, ’cause it was a great time but knocked me back into another week and a half of illness.

Worth it.
Sorry you weren’t feeling well over the holiday weekend, and hope you’re better now. Satellite was a lot of fun, including a nice dinner with John (and Alison and Steven), which I enjoyed.
I’ve never actually seen Zardoz, but that’s a great costume and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
